Activities in the field of Education:
A. Marg

SF runs a Centre for learning the life (vocational) skills called ‘Marg’ in a tribal belt at Amirgadh in Banaskantha District. The center provides training in the following six courses.

1. Welding(Welder)
2. Electrical Motor Rewinding and Submersible 
   Pump repairing
3. Electrical Training (Wireman)
4. Fitting and measurements (Fitter)
5. Turning (Turner)
6. Computer Operating Skills

The endeavor is to groom the trainees as a productive workforce, help narrowing down the digital divide and to enable them to make a decent living in their own surrounding.

The third batch of 126 trainees (64 short term and 62 NCVT pattern trainees) ) is at the moment undergoing training from July/August 2008 onwards. Out of them 30 trainees are residing on the campus.

B. Training in Non-IT Soft Skills 

Recently SF has also undertaken a programme for training the students in Palanpur Town in non-IT soft skills (basic and advanced) sponsored by the Gujarat Knowledge Society (a Government of Gujarat Undertaking). The centre for imparting training in these skills will start operating by November 2008 end. 

C. Balwadis (Kindergarten)
SF runs preschool Balwadis (Kindergarten) in two villages near Prantij in Sabarkantha District. Presently 43 Children in the age group of 3 to 5 attend these Balwadis,
D. External support to primary schools

SF is providing external support (by sponsoring school events, children activities, teaching/learning aids etc) to 15 primary schools run by the District School Board in Sabarkantha District.  Two thousand sixty six (2066) children attend these schools.

SF runs remedial classes in for helping slow learners to cope up with learning difficulties in five Municipal primary Schools and one Government Girls’ High School in Ahmedabad City. Special teachers engaged by SF conduct these classes. About 200 students attend these classes. Recently SF has started remedial classes for the inmates of the Backward Class Students’ Boarding in Prantij and two primary schools in its periphery.

E. Sponsoring Students

SF supports needy students with fees, hostel expenses, learning resources etc. During F. Y. 2007-2008, SF gave support to fifty two (five primary school students, fifteen  secondary school students, thirteen Higher Secondary students, nine college students, two post graduation students, four professional course students and four vocational course trainees) students. Amongst them twenty-six were girls and twenty-six boys. Besides SF provides notebooks, drawing books and map books to hundred children of primary schools.

F. Child Care

A large majority of the children attending primary schools in the rural area are barefooted. Sharp objects like nails, broken glasses, rocks etc. can hurt them. There is a possibility of catching infection from hookworms. To safeguard against the said risks SF provided slippers to 2712 children in 27 primary schools in Prantij Taluka in 2007-2008. Needless to say that all children getting benefit of the educational programme are from weaker sections of the Society

  Activities in the field of Health Care:
 
A. Eye Camps
Every year during the winter, SF organizes eye camps in the interior rural area at different places for eyes’ check up and identifying patients with cataract. SF provides numbered specs at a nominal price of Rs. 20/- to those having weak eyesight and facilitates cataract surgery with lens implant free of charge at nearby specialty Hospital. During F.Y. 2007-2008 from amongst 8985 persons coming for eyes’ check up to the camps, 4040 persons (2564 males and 1476 females) had the weak eyesight and 483 (223 males and 260 females) had cataract. SF provided specs to all the 4040 persons and facilitated surgeries of all the 483 cataract patients with the lens implant.
